Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 20V806: Loose or missing brake tie bar can cause crash risk

NHTSA campaign 20V806, reported December 21, 2020, 278 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2022 school buses, the fasteners holding the brake caliper tie bar on the front steer axles may not have been properly tightened, or the tie bar may not have been installed at all. A loose or dangling tie bar can contact the rotating wheel-end parts, and flexing of the brake components can cause damage. Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.

The manufacturer will notify owners. Dealers will inspect both steer axle wheel ends to confirm that all four tie bar mounting fasteners are properly tightened. If a required tie bar is missing, the caliper anchor mounts and brake function, including pad slide pins and pad movement, will be checked before a tie bar is installed. All repairs are free of charge at an authorized dealer. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls and contact an authorized dealer to schedule the inspection.
