Ford Explorer Recall 20V788: Loose Engine Mount Can Cause Sudden Power Loss

NHTSA campaign 20V788, reported December 17, 2020, 1,405 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The right-hand engine motor mount fasteners on certain vehicles may have been tightened incorrectly, and they can loosen over time. A loose mount allows engine vibration to build up, which may cause the axle to disconnect from the engine and result in a loss of power.

Losing power unexpectedly raises the risk of a crash. If you own an affected vehicle, dealers will inspect and replace the right-hand motor mount fasteners at no cost to you. Ford will also notify owners directly.

Check whether your vehicle is included by entering your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup or by contacting Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 20S72). Schedule the free repair at an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
