Hyundai Kona Electric Recall 20V748: Software glitch can reduce braking power and lengthen stopping distance

NHTSA campaign 20V748, reported December 1, 2020, 8,176 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some electric brake systems in these vehicles may detect an abnormal sensor signal in the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system. When this happens, braking performance can be significantly reduced.

Weaker braking means the vehicle may need a longer distance to stop, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk and watch for any unusual change in how the brakes respond.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will update the IEB software free of charge. You can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, and you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
