- Problem
- Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC is recalling certain 2016-2020 LP873XDT, 2015-2020 LP873SGT, 2019-2020 LPSGT and LPXDT excavator trailers. The trailers are not equipped with a rear impact guard. As such, these trailers fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
- Risk
- If a vehicle strikes the rear of the vacuum excavator, the vehicle may travel under the rear of the vacuum excavator, increasing the risk of injury and/or death.
- Remedy
- Vac-Tron will notify owners, and dealers will install a field remedy kit, free of charge. The recall began January 22, 2021. Owners may contact Vac-Tron customer service at 1-877-342-5374. Vac-Tron's number for this recall is VVK0016.

What this recall means for you
These vacuum excavator trailers were built without a rear impact guard, so they do not meet the federal rear impact protection standard (FMVSS 224). The guard is meant to stop a vehicle that hits the back of the trailer from sliding underneath it.
If a vehicle strikes the rear of the trailer, it may travel under the unit, which raises the risk of serious injury or death to occupants of the other vehicle.
Owners will be notified by Vac-Tron, and an authorized dealer will install a field remedy kit at no cost to you. You can contact Vac-Tron customer service at 1-877-342-5374, referencing recall number VVK0016. You should also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
