Thomas Built Buses Minotour Recall 20V690: School Bus Could Move While Wheelchair Lift Is Out

NHTSA campaign 20V690, reported November 9, 2020, 615 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Thomas Built Buses Minotour school buses from model years 2008 through 2015 may allow the driver to release the parking brake and shift out of Park into a drive gear while the wheelchair lift is deployed. The vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 403 for platform lift systems.

If the bus is put into drive while the wheelchair lift is extended, the vehicle may move forward or backward, which increases the risk of injury to riders, lift users, or others near the bus.

The remedy is free. Dealers will modify the wheelchair lift wiring as needed at no cost to owners. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall FL-868), and you can check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
