Ford Transit Connect Recall 20V636: Engine may overheat after coolant loss, risking fire

NHTSA campaign 20V636, reported October 15, 2020, 2,903 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles have powertrain control module software with fail-safe temperature threshold values set higher than intended for the engine. If coolant is lost, the fail-safe cooling strategy may be delayed, allowing the engine to overheat.

An overheating engine can suffer engine damage and increases the risk of a fire. Owners should not ignore warning lights or temperature gauge readings that suggest overheating.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will update the powertrain control module software. Ford will also notify owners. You can check whether your vehicle's VIN has open recalls and contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 20S60.
