- Component
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BODY CONTROL MODULE/BCM; TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
- Problem
- Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Escape vehicles equipped with a key-start ignition system. The Body Control Module (BCM) intermittently may not pick up the signal from the rear Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors or the Remote Key Fob. In the event of a low tire pressure condition, the TPMS system may not provide an adequate warning.
- Risk
- Low tire pressure may lead to poor vehicle handling and a possible loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of crash.
- Remedy
- Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the BCM, free of charge. Owners are advised that two key fobs are required for the repair to be completed. The recall began December 1, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S59.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
The body control module, which handles signals from the rear tire pressure monitoring sensors and the remote key fob, may intermittently fail to receive those signals. If a tire loses pressure, the system may not give an adequate warning. Low tire pressure can cause poor handling and a possible loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the body control module at no cost. Owners are advised that two key fobs are required to complete the repair, so bring both if you have them.
Check whether your vehicle is affected by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup or contacting Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 20S59). Until the repair is done, check your tire pressures regularly by hand, since the warning light may not reliably alert you.
