Altec Aerial Device Recall 20V502: Boom May Move Unexpectedly, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 20V502, reported August 25, 2020, 17 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain aerial devices built on International N9/N10 chassis, the engine idle can rise suddenly during an HC Desorb cycle. This increases pump flow, which can change how fast the boom moves.

Because the boom speed can change unexpectedly, it may end up in an unintended position, which raises the risk of injury.

Altec will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a software update that reprograms the low idle preset to 850 RPM. The repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 (Altec recall number CSN 774), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
