Great Dane Truck Body Recall 20V431: Rear license plate light may aim the wrong way

NHTSA campaign 20V431, reported July 24, 2020, 23 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2018 through 2020 Great Dane truck bodies fitted with Maxon GPTLR or GPTWR lift gates and a license plate bracket light, the license plate light may be installed so it points rearward instead of onto the license plate. As a result, these vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which governs lamps and reflective devices.

A license plate light aimed toward other drivers can create glare and reduce the visibility of the plate, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Great Dane will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a corrective license plate kit with light, as needed, at no cost. The recall began January 11, 2021. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493, and check your VIN for open recalls.
