Mitsubishi Outlander Recall 20V403: Rear Seat Belt Buckle Can Come Apart, Leaving Passenger Unrestrained

NHTSA campaign 20V403, reported July 13, 2020, 177,000 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The second-row center seat belt buckle can interfere with the right-side seat belt buckle when the rear seat backs are folded down. This interference can cause the right-side buckle cover to come off, making that buckle latch unable to hold a passenger in place.

If the buckle does not work, an rear-seat occupant is not restrained and faces a higher risk of injury in a crash.

The repair is free at an authorized Mitsubishi dealer, which will modify the center seat belt buckle cover, install a new warning label on the second-row seat support base, and provide a new warning label insert for the owner's manual. Owners can also contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-888-648-7820 and reference recall SR-20-004. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
