Forest River Surveyor Recall 20V297: Trailer Safety Chains May Break, Risking Detachment

NHTSA campaign 20V297, reported May 22, 2020, 88 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain travel trailers have safety chains that are not strong enough for the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating. If the trailer comes unhitched from the tow vehicle, the chains may break, allowing the trailer to fully detach. This can cause property damage, personal injury, or a crash.

Owners will be notified by Forest River. A dealer or service center will replace the safety chains at no cost. Owners can also contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-3112. Check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls, and have the chains replaced before towing again.
