- Problem
- Heartland Recreational Vehicles, LLC (Heartland) is recalling certain 2020 Mallard, Prowler, Trail Runner, and Wilderness trailers equipped with a bumper-mounted spare tire carrier. The U-bolt that secures the spare tire may break, and cause the spare tire to detach during travel.
- Risk
- If both U-bolts break, the carrier and spare tire can detach from the unit, resulting in an increased risk of injury and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Heartland will notify owners, and dealers will replace the spare tire mounting U-bolts, free of charge. The recall began July 7, 2020. Owners may contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032.

What this recall means for you
Certain 2020 Heartland trailers with a bumper-mounted spare tire carrier have U-bolts that hold the spare tire in place. These U-bolts may break, allowing the spare tire to come loose while the trailer is being towed.
If both U-bolts break, the carrier and spare tire can detach from the trailer during travel. A loose tire and carrier can strike other vehicles or people and increase the risk of a crash and injury.
The repair is free. Heartland will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the spare tire mounting U-bolts at no charge. You can contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032, and you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
