- Problem
- Spartan Motors, Inc. (Spartan) is recalling certain 2020-2021 FLT Utilimaster Truck Body vehicles. The license plate lamp may be installed in the incorrect position and at an incorrect angle, causing the plate to not be properly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Risk
- The incorrectly positioned license plate lamp may cause confusion to other drivers on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Spartan will notify owners, and will replace the license plate lamp, free of charge. The recall began May 5, 2020. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-5008. Spartan's number for this recall is 20-05.

What this recall means for you
Certain 2020 and 2021 FLT Utilimaster truck body vehicles may have the license plate lamp installed in the wrong position and at the wrong angle. As a result, the rear license plate may not be properly illuminated, which does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.
Because the plate may not be properly lit, other drivers may have difficulty reading it or seeing the vehicle clearly at night, which could create confusion on the road and increase the risk of a crash.
Spartan Motors will notify affected owners and replace the license plate lamp at no cost. Owners can contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-5008 (Spartan recall number 20-05). You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
