Subaru Crosstrek Recall 20V189: Rear Seat Belts May Not Lock, Raising Injury Risk in Crashes

NHTSA campaign 20V189, reported March 31, 2020, 4,862 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 Subaru Crosstrek vehicles have rear seat belt assemblies with a dual-mode locking mechanism. The seat belt webbing sensor locking mechanism may not lock as intended.

If the vehicle is involved in a crash with multiple impacts, the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, which increases the risk of injury. Owners should take this recall seriously, especially if rear seats are regularly occupied.

Subaru will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will replace the rear seat belt assemblies free of charge. You can contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 (Subaru recall number WRC-20) and check your VIN for open recalls.
