Autocar Xspotter Recall 19V923: Gear display can fail, hiding shift position and raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 19V923, reported December 27, 2019, 156 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The gear position display (shift pad) on certain Autocar Xspotter trucks may fail, so the driver cannot see which transmission range or gear sequence is selected. The vehicles therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 102, which covers transmission shift lever sequence and related requirements.

Without a readable gear indication, the operator may not know the transmission range, which increases the risk of a crash or injury. Because the shift pad is placed where it can fail to display this information, the defect affects a basic control function of the vehicle.

If you own an affected Xspotter, contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 or 1-877-973-3486 and reference recall ACTT-2001. Autocar will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will relocate the shift pad free of charge. Autocar sent an interim notification on February 24, 2020. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
