Spartan Metro Star Recall 19V913: Brake Valve May Restrict Air Flow, Lengthening Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 19V913, reported December 20, 2019, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 Spartan Emergency Response MetroStar chassis vehicles may have a brake relay valve that restricts air flow in the air brake system. This can increase the distance needed to stop the vehicle, and these vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

A longer stopping distance raises the risk of a crash, particularly in emergencies when quick braking is needed. Owners should be aware of this issue and not delay addressing it.

The repair is free. Spartan will notify owners, though no notification schedule has been provided yet. Spartan dealers will inspect and replace the brake relay valves at no charge. You can contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-5008 or SVI Trucks customer service at 1-888-784-1112, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
