Peterbilt 520 Recall 19V911: Rear axle shaft may fracture, risking detached driveline

NHTSA campaign 19V911, reported December 19, 2019, 148 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain heavy-duty trucks built in 2020 may have rear axle output shafts that were not heat treated properly during manufacturing. Over time, these forward rear axle shafts could fracture.

If a shaft breaks, the shaft or the interaxle driveline could detach from the vehicle and fall onto the road. A loose driveline piece can become a road hazard for other drivers and increases the risk of a crash.

PACCAR will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the rear axle output shafts and replace them if needed, at no cost to you. Owners can contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your truck is affected.
