NHTSA campaign 19V866, reported December 6, 2019, 2,167 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Hairline cracks can develop in the transmission electronic gearbox (mechatronic unit) of these Jetta Hybrids. The cracks can cause an internal transmission oil leak and a drop in oil pressure, which may stop the clutch from engaging.

If the clutch fails to engage, the vehicle can suddenly lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have the repair completed as soon as possible.

The repair is free at an authorized Volkswagen dealer, which will install a repair kit and replace affected parts as needed. Owner notification letters were mailed June 25, 2021; you can also contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall number 34J6).
