Freightliner Econic SD Recall 19V829: Incorrect weight label can lead to axle overload and crash risk

NHTSA campaign 19V829, reported November 19, 2019, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The certification label on certain vehicles lists an incorrect gross axle weight rating (GAWR). This means the label does not match the rating the axles are actually designed for, and the vehicles do not fully comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120 for wheels and rims.

Because the label understates or misstates what the axles can carry, the vehicle could be loaded beyond the correct axle limits. Overloaded axles increase the risk of a crash.

According to the manufacturer, all affected vehicles have already been remedied with new labels, so owners will not receive a notification letter. If you want to confirm your vehicle's status or ask questions, you can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall FL-840.
