Mitsubishi I-Miev Recall 19V804: Water Can Corrode Brake Vacuum Pump, Causing Loss of Braking Assist

NHTSA campaign 19V804, reported November 8, 2019, 2,108 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Water may get into the brake assist vacuum pump on certain 2012-2017 Mitsubishi i-MiEV vehicles. Over time, this can cause corrosion and the pump can fail.

If the brake vacuum pump fails, the driver will suddenly lose braking assist. This lengthens the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the brake vacuum pump at no charge, and Mitsubishi Motors North America will notify owners. You can contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820 (recall number SR-19-002), and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
