Custom Fire Pumper Rescue Tanker Recall 19V764: Brake air can suddenly leak out, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 19V764, reported October 25, 2019, 57 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain fire pumper, tanker, and rescue vehicles built on a Spartan Motors chassis, the service brake air reservoir may not be pressure protected where the control line for the automatic tire chain system connects. If that control line is cut, the service brake air system can suddenly lose air, which increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will inspect how the control lines are routed and reroute them into the auxiliary air reservoir where needed. Spartan will notify Custom Fire owners directly.

If you own one of these vehicles, contact Custom Fire customer service at 1-715-294-2555 and reference recall 19V674. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
