Chevrolet Equinox Recall 19V704: Rear brakes may drag and overheat, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 19V704, reported October 3, 2019, 166 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The rear brake calipers on these vehicles may have been built with an incorrect lubricant. Over time, this can cause the rubber seals to swell, so the brakes may stay partly applied, or drag.

Brake drag can overheat the brake pads and reduce braking ability, which increases the risk of a crash.

General Motors will notify owners. Authorized dealers will replace the rear brake calipers, including the brake hose gasket, brake fluid, and wheel-to-hub lubricant, at no cost to you. You can also contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
