BMW 325 Recall 19V698: Driver Airbag Inflator Can Explode and Injure Occupants

NHTSA campaign 19V698, reported October 2, 2019, 3,924 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driver-side frontal airbag inflator in these vehicles may rupture or explode. Over time, the propellant can degrade after long exposure to high humidity, heat, and repeated temperature changes. An explosion can send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, which can cause serious injury or death.

If your vehicle is included in this recall, do not drive it until the driver airbag module has been replaced. Contact an authorized BMW dealer or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to arrange the inspection and replacement. The repair is free of charge, and dealers will inspect the driver's airbag module and replace it as needed.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether this or any other recall applies to your car. This recall expands earlier recalls 17V-047 and 19V-015.
