BMW K 1600 B Recall 19V692: Transmission Parts May Lock Rear Wheel, Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 19V692, reported October 1, 2019, 4,672 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain transmission parts on these BMW K 1600 motorcycles may not have been made to the correct hardness level. This can affect how the transmission works, possibly causing two gears to engage at once and/or damage to transmission parts. Double gear engagement or transmission damage can cause the rear wheel to lock up, affecting stability and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Dealers will replace the shift forks, the selector sleeve of 5th/6th gear, and the gear wheel of 6th gear. BMW will notify owners; interim letters about the safety risk were mailed November 1, 2019, and a second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. You can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and you should check your VIN for open recalls at an authorized BMW dealer or on the NHTSA website.
