Spartan Gladiator Recall 19V523: Front shock can loosen and cause loss of steering assist

NHTSA campaign 19V523, reported July 12, 2019, 234 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain Spartan Gladiator and MetroStar emergency response vehicles, the front shock absorbers may separate from their upper mount. A loose shock can contact and damage the steering gear housing, which may cause a power steering fluid leak and a loss of power steering assist.

Losing power steering assist makes the vehicle harder to steer and increases the risk of a crash. If you own an affected vehicle, contact Spartan Motors customer service at 1-800-543-5008 and reference recall number 19015. Spartan will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will install new shock bolts, and shims if necessary, at no cost to you.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected and still needs the repair.
