Mazda !MX-5 Recall 19V496: Underbody skid plate may detach and cause road debris

NHTSA campaign 19V496, reported June 27, 2019, 2,476 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A skid plate and its metal bracket on the underside of certain 2016 vehicles may come loose and detach from the car. The part is attached beneath the vehicle, so the risk is that it falls onto the road while you are driving.

Parts that separate from a vehicle can become a road hazard for you and other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash. If you own an affected vehicle, the repair is free: Mazda will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the skid plate at no cost.

To find out whether your vehicle is included, contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, or check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA's website. Owners should arrange the free repair at an authorized dealer.
