Jayco Greyhawk Recall 19V406: Brake valve may restrict airflow, lengthening stopping distance

NHTSA campaign 19V406, reported May 30, 2019, 23 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A brake relay valve in certain motorhomes may have a partially blocked orifice. This restricts airflow in the air brake system and can extend stopping distance without any warning to the driver. The vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

A longer-than-expected stopping distance raises the risk of a crash, since the vehicle may not stop in the distance drivers anticipate. Owners should be especially cautious and allow extra room when braking until the issue is addressed.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will inspect the brake relay valve and replace it if needed. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners can contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-5008 or Jayco at 1-800-517-9137, and can check their VIN for any open recalls.
