Chevrolet Express Recall 19V387: Rear-Quarter Windows May Be Tempered, Raising Injury Risk

NHTSA campaign 19V387, reported May 23, 2019, 1,159 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2016-2019 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans may have one or both rear-quarter windows made of tempered glass instead of laminated glass. Tempered glass does not meet the federal ejection-mitigation standard (FMVSS 226), so it offers less protection to occupants in a side impact or rollover crash.

The repair is free. GM will notify affected owners, and an authorized dealer will replace any tempered rear-quarter windows with laminated glass. The recall began July 5, 2019. You can contact GM customer service at 1-586-596-1733 with the recall number N192218960 for more information.

You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website or through your dealer, and schedule the free replacement if your van is affected.
