Honda CR-V Recall 19V383: Steering Wheel Burrs Can Disable or Trigger Driver Airbag

NHTSA campaign 19V383, reported May 21, 2019, 161,252 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Metal burrs inside the steering wheel core can damage the wiring harnesses routed through it. This could disable the driver's airbag, so it would not work in a crash, or cause the driver's airbag to deploy without warning.

A disabled airbag raises the risk of injury in a crash, and an unexpected deployment can increase the risk of injury and cause a crash. Owners should not wait to have this addressed.

The repair is free at an authorized Honda dealer, which will install a protective cover on the steering wheel core and replace the clockspring and the harnesses inside. Owners can also contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
