Ford Ranger Recall 19V366: Shifter Bracket Can Loosen, Causing Unexpected Movement

NHTSA campaign 19V366, reported May 13, 2019, 2,534 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The fasteners that attach the transmission shifter cable bracket to the transmission can loosen. If this happens, the transmission may be in a different gear than the shift lever shows, so the vehicle may move in an unexpected direction. Even when the shifter is in Park, the vehicle can roll if the parking brake is not applied before you leave the driver's seat. Either situation raises the risk of a crash or injury.

A dealer will inspect the transmission shift cable bracket fasteners, tighten them as needed, and verify proper transmission shift operation. The repair is free. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 19S15, or check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.

Until the repair is done, always apply the parking brake before exiting the vehicle, and make sure the gear selected matches what you expect before you move.
