Ford Fusion Recall 19V362: Fusion Shifter Bushing May Detach, Allowing Unexpected Rolling

NHTSA campaign 19V362, reported May 13, 2019, 259,182 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles with 2.5 liter engines have a bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission. Over time this bushing may degrade and detach. If that happens, the shift lever can be moved to Park and the ignition key removed even though the transmission is not actually in Park, and the vehicle gives no warning message or audible chime.

If the driver exits the vehicle without the transmission in Park and without the parking brake applied, the vehicle may move unexpectedly, which increases the risk of a crash. Until the repair is done, owners are directed to use the parking brake whenever they park.

The repair is free: Ford dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing at no charge. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall 19S16), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
