Indian Chieftain Recall 19V339: Front Lights May Cut Out While Riding, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 19V339, reported May 1, 2019, 6,487 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A problem within the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) can cause all of the front lights, including the headlight, to go out while the motorcycle is being ridden. Losing front lighting reduces your visibility to other drivers and to the road ahead, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. An authorized dealer will inspect the VCM connector and update the VCM software. If the connector is damaged, the dealer will install a new connector and a new VCM at no cost. Indian will also notify owners directly. This recall has been replaced by NHTSA recall 22V-635, so check the current recall status for your motorcycle.

To see whether your motorcycle has open recalls, check your VIN with NHTSA or contact Indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697 and reference Indian recall number I-19-02.
