Dynamax Isata Recall 19V295: Vehicle Can Shift Out of Park Without Brake, Risking Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 19V295, reported April 11, 2019, 16 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2018 motorhomes with a column-mounted shifter, the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock pin can stick in the open position if the brake pedal is pressed for long periods while the engine is running and the vehicle is in Park. When the pin sticks, the transmission can be moved out of Park into any gear without pressing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

This creates a risk of unintended rollaway, which could cause personal injury or a crash.

Owners should contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Forest River at 1-574-262-3474 (Forest River recall number 55-0993) to confirm whether their vehicle is affected. The remedy is free: an authorized Chrysler dealer will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and replace it if necessary. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.

Component
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
Problem
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018 Dynamax Isata vehicles built on a RAM chassis and equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Risk
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
Remedy
Forest River will notify owners, and Chrysler dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began May 6, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Forest River at 1-574-262-3474. Forest River's number for this recall is 55-0993.
