Proterra Catalyst Recall 19V283: Clogged Tow Fitting Can Cause Brake Drag and Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 19V283, reported April 9, 2019, 39 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A mesh cap covering the airline on an optional tow fitting can become clogged with road debris in wet or harsh weather. This can cause air pressure to build up in the rear brake system.

The pressure buildup can cause the rear brakes to drag and possibly overheat, which increases the risk of a fire. Owners should contact Proterra customer service at 1-864-438-0000 to confirm the recall and arrange the repair.

Proterra will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will install an additional shield over the tow fitting to protect the mesh cap. The repair is free of charge. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for any open recalls.
