Hackney Emergency Vehicle Recall 19V223: Brake lights may light up without pedal pressed

NHTSA campaign 19V223, reported March 21, 2019, 4 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017-2018 Hackney emergency vehicles have Whelen brake lights that, depending on how the vehicle is wired, may illuminate even when the brake pedal has not been pressed. This means the vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.

False brake light activation can confuse other drivers about what your vehicle is doing, which may increase the risk of a crash. If you own an affected vehicle, VT Hackney will notify you, and authorized dealers will replace the lights at no cost to you. You can contact VT Hackney customer service at 1-800-763-0700, extension 2016, for more information.

Whether or not you have received a notice, check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
