- Problem
- Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2020 Anthem and Pinnacle trucks. The conspicuity reflectors at the back of the cab may be blocked by the exhaust system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
- Risk
- If the reflectors are blocked, the vehicle's visibility to other drivers may be reduced, increasing the risk of crash.
- Remedy
- Mack has notified owners, and dealers will install additional reflectors on the back of the cab, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0418.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain 2020 Mack Anthem and Pinnacle trucks have conspicuity reflectors at the back of the cab that may be blocked by the exhaust system. Because of this, the trucks do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.
If the reflectors are blocked, other drivers may have a harder time seeing the truck, which increases the risk of a crash, especially in low-light conditions.
The repair is free. Authorized Mack dealers will install additional reflectors on the back of the cab. Owners can contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 and reference recall number SC0418, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
