Fisker Karma Recall 19V181: Passenger airbag inflator can explode, sending metal shards

NHTSA campaign 19V181, reported March 6, 2019, 472 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2012 Fisker Karma vehicles have passenger frontal air bag inflators that may explode. The propellant inside can degrade after long-term exposure to high humidity, heat and temperature changes, and the resulting explosion can throw sharp metal fragments toward the occupants.

An inflator explosion can cause serious injury or death to the driver or other occupants struck by those fragments. The recall covers vehicles registered in a list of states and the District of Columbia, so check whether your vehicle was registered in one of them.

Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflators free of charge. Contact Karma customer service at 1-855-288-6109, quoting recall number 5.84.17.001.01, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
