Darley Fire Apparatus Recall 19V162: Brake lights may light up without the pedal pressed

NHTSA campaign 19V162, reported March 4, 2019, 5 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017-2019 Darley WASP fire trucks, built on a Ford F-550 or Spartan Metro Star chassis and equipped with Whelen brake lights, may have brake lights that illuminate even when the brake pedal is not pressed. Depending on how the vehicle is wired, the lights can come on by themselves, and the vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.

False brake light signals can confuse other drivers about what your vehicle is doing, which raises the risk of a crash, especially when following traffic is close or conditions are poor.

Darley has notified owners and will provide replacement brake lights free of charge. The recall began March 18, 2019. Contact Darley customer service at 1-800-634-7812, and check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
