Mclaren MP4-12C Spider Recall 19V141: Passenger Airbag May Explode, Sending Metal Fragments Into Cabin

NHTSA campaign 19V141, reported February 28, 2019, 2,792 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can degrade over time from long-term exposure to high humidity, heat, and temperature cycling. The propellant may then burn too rapidly, causing the inflator to rupture or explode when the airbag deploys.

If this happens, sharp metal fragments can strike the driver or other occupants, which may result in serious injury or death. Affected vehicles include certain McLaren MP4-12C, 650S, 675 LT, P1, and 570 models from model years 2012 through 2017.

Owners should contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916 or an authorized dealer. The airbags will be replaced free of charge. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
