Foundation Ambulance Type I Ambulance Recall 19V128: Brake lights may turn on without brake pedal pressed

NHTSA campaign 19V128, reported February 26, 2019, 28 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017-2018 Foundation Ambulance Type I and Type III ambulances equipped with Whelen brake lights may have brake lights that illuminate even when the brake pedal has not been pressed. Depending on how the vehicle is wired, the lights can come on falsely, which does not meet federal lighting safety requirements.

False brake lights can confuse other drivers about whether you are slowing or stopping, which increases the risk of a rear-end or other crash. If you own one of these ambulances, have your vehicle checked and keep in mind that the lights may not be reliable indicators of your braking.

Foundation Ambulance has notified owners and will replace the Whelen lights at no cost. Contact Foundation Ambulance customer service at 1-678-826-2219 to arrange the repair, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
