J&J Truck Bodies Dump Body Recall 19V126: Brake lights may light up without brake pedal pressed

NHTSA campaign 19V126, reported February 25, 2019, 28 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some dump bodies built in 2017 and 2018 by J&J Truck Bodies have Whelen 40BTTD brake lights that, depending on how the vehicle is wired, may illuminate even when the brake pedal has not been pressed. Because these lights do not meet the federal lighting standard (FMVSS 108), they can send misleading signals to other drivers.

If the brake lights come on incorrectly, following drivers may think you are slowing or stopping when you are not. That confusion can lead to rear-end collisions or other crashes. If you own an affected vehicle, contact J&J Truck Bodies customer service at 1-814-444-7044. Somerset Welding & Steel will replace the brake lights free of charge at no cost to you. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
