Kia Sedona Recall 19V109: Passenger Airbag May Not Deploy for Child in Front Seat

NHTSA campaign 19V109, reported February 19, 2019, 94,389 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A wiring harness under the manually adjusted front passenger seat can break over time from the seat being occupied. The Occupant Detection System wiring that tells the airbag whether a seat is occupied may fail, so if a child is in a child seat in the front passenger seat, the front passenger airbag may not deploy in a crash, raising the risk of injury to the child.

Dealers will remove the wiring harness clip to keep the harness from breaking. If the harness is found damaged, the front passenger seat cushion will be replaced. All repairs are free of charge at an authorized Kia dealer. Owners may also contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, referencing recall SC175, and can check their VIN for open recalls.
