Nissan Murano Recall 18V916: Brakes May Need More Pedal Travel to Stop

NHTSA campaign 18V916, reported December 19, 2018, 86,265 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2009 Nissan Murano vehicles may have a problem with the anti-lock brake system's hydraulic control unit. Valves inside the unit can react with brake fluids containing certain corrosion-preventing additives, which may stop them from closing properly.

If the valves do not close properly, the brake pedal may need to travel farther than normal to stop the vehicle. This increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free at an authorized Nissan dealer. Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid, then test the hydraulic control unit for a possible stuck valve, and replace the unit if necessary. Owners can also contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
