Mercedes-Benz S 560 Recall 18V910: Steering assist may stay on with hands off the wheel

NHTSA campaign 18V910, reported December 19, 2018, 6,200 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles may have a fault in the Hands-off-Detection system. This can leave the Active Steering Assist system engaged for a long period even when the driver's hands are not on the steering wheel.

If the system stays active while the driver is not holding the wheel, the driver may become inattentive, which increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy is a free software update to the steering control unit performed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2019040024. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
