Hyundai Elantra GT Recall 18V891: Sunroof May Not Stop on Obstacles, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 18V891, reported December 14, 2018, 86 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The panoramic sunroof motor may be incorrectly programmed, so the sunroof may not detect an obstacle while it is closing. This means a closing sunroof might not stop and retract when something is in its path.

If the sunroof does not detect an obstacle and reverse, there is an increased risk of injury to anyone or anything caught in it. Owners should be alert to this when operating the sunroof.

Hyundai will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the panoramic sunroof and replace it if necessary, free of charge. You can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (Hyundai recall number 179), and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
