Toyota Tacoma Recall 18V888: Brake Seal May Fail, Lengthening Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 18V888, reported December 13, 2018, 44,121 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain brake master cylinders in these trucks may have been improperly machined, which can cause internal damage to one of the seals. When that seal is damaged, the brakes may not perform as well as they should.

Reduced brake performance can make it take longer to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this seriously and have the problem checked as soon as possible.

Toyota will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the brake master cylinder free of charge. You can contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, and you should check your VIN for open recalls on your vehicle.
