Forest River Rockport Recall 18V876: Wrong axle weight label can lead to overloading and crash risk

NHTSA campaign 18V876, reported December 10, 2018, 142 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The federal placard on certain 2019 Rockport vehicles may list an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). Because the stated limit may be wrong, the vehicle can be loaded beyond what its rear axle is rated to carry, and the vehicle may not meet federal certification requirements.

An overloaded vehicle may be harder to control, which increases the risk of losing control and crashing. Owners should take the placard concern seriously and avoid loading the vehicle past the weight limits until the placard is corrected.

The remedy is free. Dealers will replace the Federal Placard with a corrected one at no cost. You can also contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-522-7599 (recall number 51-0919). Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls at NHTSA's website or through an authorized dealer.
