Rosenbauer Fire Apparatus Recall 18V874: Brake lights may light up without the pedal pressed

NHTSA campaign 18V874, reported December 7, 2018, 319 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some fire apparatus vehicles fitted with Whelen accessory brake lights may have wiring that causes the brake lights to illuminate even when the brake pedal has not been pressed. Because this does not meet federal lighting requirements, other drivers may be confused about whether the vehicle is slowing down.

This false signal can mislead drivers behind or beside the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000 and reference recall number 18E-063.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the brake lights if necessary, at no cost to the owner. You can also check your VIN for any open recalls on your vehicle.
