Great Dane Freedom Recall 18V825: Rear Guard Too Narrow; Cars Could Slip Under Trailer

NHTSA campaign 18V825, reported November 21, 2018, 102 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 Great Dane Freedom Combo Drop Deck Platform trailers may have rear impact guards that are too narrow. The guards do not meet federal rear impact guard width requirements (FMVSS 223).

If the guards are too narrow, they may not stop a vehicle from going underneath the trailer in a rear-end collision, which increases the risk of injury to occupants of the striking vehicle.

Great Dane will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a set of rear impact guard extensions at no cost to you. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493. You can also check your trailer's VIN for open recalls.
