- Component
- EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Problem
- Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2004-2019 Volvo VHD trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits. The snow plow headlights can be turned on without other exterior lights, and high beam indicator will not work when the snow plow high beams are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Risk
- The driver may operate the vehicle with the snow plow headlights on but the marker and tail lamps off, reducing the vehicle's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will update the software related to the plow lights, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1804.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain Volvo VHD trucks are equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits that allow the snow plow headlights to be switched on without the other exterior lights. The high beam indicator also will not work when the snow plow high beams are on. As a result, these trucks do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.
If the driver runs with the snow plow headlights on while the marker and tail lamps are off, the truck is less visible to other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash.
Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will update the software related to the plow lights at no cost to you. Contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 with recall number RVXX1804, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
